Boss HogはCristina Martinez（vox）とJon Spencer（guitar / vox）の夫婦に、Jens Jurgensen（bass）、Hollis Queens（beats / vox）、Mark Boyce（keys）を加えた５人組。６曲入りミニ・アルバム《Drinkin', Lechin' & Lyin'》（Amphetamine Reptile 1989）のヘア・ヌード・ジャケが挑発しているように、Cristina嬢のキャラ（ヴォイス＆肢体）を前面に押し出したパンク・ブルーズ・バンドである。ビッチ風の煽情的なヌードから一転して、デビュー・アルバム《Cold Hands》（1990）ではピンナップ・ガール風の美しい裸体を披露した。ゲフィン・グループからリリースされた初メジャー・アルバム《Boss Hog》（DGC 1995）は、黒いロングドレス姿で黒傘を翳すCristina嬢の露出度の少ないイラスト・カヴァが災いしたのか、Sonic Youthのような長期メジャー契約には至らず、3rdアルバム《Whiteout》（2000）はインディーズに舞い戻ってのリリースだった。

《Whiteout》のUS盤（In The Red）はファンの期待に違わずCristina嬢の妖艶なヌード・ジャケだったが、EU盤（City Slang）は露出度を抑えた白い下着姿に変更されてしまった（欧州にはヌード・カヴァに厳しい規制があるのでしょうか？）。しかし、11曲入りのEU盤はスクリーンセーヴァやPV、ゲーム‥‥など、映像特典が付いたエンハンスト仕様になっている。「Boss Hog Game」（The 'Whiteout' enhanced extravaganza!）はNYを探索して、Boss Hogの未発表テープを発見するアドヴェンチャー・ゲームで、クリアするとMP3ファイル〈Lobito〉をダウンロード出来る。レコード店の棚にBoss Hogのレコードを発売順に並べたり、４色（赤・青・緑・黄）のカラーとノイズを記憶して倉庫のロックを外したり、２階の窓から次々に投げ落とされる家具を避けながらカセット・テープをキャッチしたり、超カルトな「Boss Hog Quiz」に答えたり‥‥おバカなゲームに笑えます。

「Boss Hog Game」がウェブ上で遊べる？‥‥と喜んでみたものの、City Slangのサイトで実際にプレイ出来るのは全４パートの最初の１つ、「Etherea Records」店内に入ってBoss Hogのレコードを発売順に並べるゲーム（Part 1）だけ。しかも正しくディスプレイしたにも拘わらず、不正解（NO! That was wrong. Look, this is the correct order!）というアラートが出て次のステップへ進めない！‥‥悔しいなぁ。でも、制限時間（20秒）以内にレコードを棚にドラッグしてリリース順に並べるのは結構難しいですよ。興味を持たれた方は《Whiteout》（City Slang 1999）のEnhanced CDを入手して、「Boss Hog Game」に挑戦しましょう。クラシック環境（Mac OS 9）でしか動作しないので、Macユーザは注意してね。

The 'Whiteout' enhanced extravaganza!

For PC and Mac users, the Whiteout CD has some interactive specials, such as screen savers, a music video, and a cool video game (you are on a hunt in New York searching for an unreleased demo track!!!). You can play a tiny little episode of that game if you click the button below. (It's 488k big, so it might take a while to load, and you will need a shockwave-plugin.)
Remember: This excerpt is only a tiny little part of the whole thing.
It's an episode that takes place at one of New Yorks finest record stores, Etherea Records. By the way, all locations in that game really exist (Cristina picked them). So the whole enhanced-extravaganza also serves as a New York travel guide for every Boss Hog-fan...
